The St. Paul’s Prayer Quilt Ministry supply prayers through quilts to those who request for sickness, surgery, grief or anytime a need is expressed and where the quilt is willingly accepted by the recipient. They are not “surprises”. We are a member of Prayers & Squares, Inc.
Prayers and Squares, Inc’s has Three Commandments (rules) which are:
- Remember the Prayers & Squares motto: “It’s not about the quilt, it’s all about the prayers.”
The purpose of our ministry must be to promote an active prayer life among the participants, not just to make and give away quilts. Strive to involve as many people as possible in your prayer efforts. - You must ASK before you give the gift of a prayer quilt; surprises are not appropriate. Ask if the person to receive the quilt will accept your gift of prayer. Ask what they would like you to pray for. Ask what information about their situation may be shared with others.
- Do not accept any form of payment for a prayer quilt; it is a gift of love and prayer which cannot be bought or sold. Those who request or receive prayer quilts must not be made to feel obligated to Prayers & Squares in any way.
With these in mind we have given away 6 quilts to people connected to our congregation either members or friends of members. Anyone can receive a quilt, they just need to ask. Currently, four people are helping with the construction of the quilts and the congregation is helping with the prayers.
Prayers are “placed” in the quilts during the selection of fabric, construction and most importantly during the tying of “square” knots on Sunday mornings.
Donations of fabric, especially 2 yard pre-washed pieces; cones of thread and contributions are willing excepted along with any time and talent toward sewing. We are currently working on an as needed basis but would like to get ahead of the need so emergency needs can be more quickly addressed.
