Dear St. Paul’s,

I find myself with little to write about at this moment.  I no longer watch the national news as it is still too disturbing for me.  Thus, my daily news consists of local events and the weather.  This is one of the ways I am caring for myself during this chaotic time.  Some folks want to discuss what is happening at the national level while others prefer to not hear one word.  I struggle finding words to say to my good friends who are Republican as well as to my good friends who are Democrats.  My best conversations right now are with God.

And perhaps that is the only wise thing I have to offer right now to all my friends, family and parish community.  Pray.  Pray for wisdom and calm.  Pray for those who will be harmed by governmental decisions.  Pray for those on the margins whose words are seldom heard.  Pray for our President-elect, our President and for all in decision-making positions.  Pray for your families – particularly those separated by partisan politics.  Pray for our children who will one day be responsible for the world we are creating today.

Keep reminding yourselves that Jesus continued his ministry – healing, teaching, feeding – no matter who was in power.  And we are asked to continue ours.  And we shall do so.

Soon it will be Thanksgiving – a time to express our gratitude for all that we have, and we do have much.  Let us not forget that for one moment.  Find the time and space to express your gratitude to God for the riches of gifts and blessings that abound.  Keep reminding yourself that God is ever present – even when he/she seems so absent.

May your next week be filled with goodness, kindness, and rest.  Care for yourselves and each other.

Blessings, to you and yours,
