Advent 1
Dear All,
My hope is all enjoyed a bit of food and respite this past week with Thanksgiving. Perhaps you feasted with family, or perhaps you enjoyed a meal with a friend, however you may have celebrated, I hope it was a good one. Now we begin our preparations for a new beginning.
Just as the church year has started anew, so do we in our Sunday readings as we prepare for something miraculous to occur. I realize it is difficult as we do this each year. At times I wonder what will I preach on as I’ve done this Sunday’s readings at least once every three years for the last thirty years. Yet as our world is ever-changing and we are ever transforming, someone I find something new.
As you enter this church year, what are you hoping for? A change in your life? A change in your faith? We clergy have a tendency to cross our fingers and “hold on” for the next four weeks until we get past Christmas. Is that what you are doing? If there are ways I can be helpful with your start of the new church year, let me know.
There are a few things to share with you regarding our building . . . the main sewer pipe in the floor of the Music Building has gotten old and rusted and needs to be replaced. That work, which involves cutting in to loadbearing walls, reinforcing with steel, changing pipes, etc. will begin on Monday, December 2nd. Until further notice, the bathrooms and all sinks (including the Sacristy) are off limits and cannot be used. Heck, we can handle this one – I remember the church being off-limits for 18 months back in 2017. Also, our exterior electronic sign is in need of new radios and thus we cannot re-program or update it until it is fixed.
A big thank you to all who have turned in their pledge cards. If you have not, we certainly will continue to receive them. Your pledge cards are greatly needed for our 2025 budgeting process. Your willingness to give of your money and your time is appreciated beyond what you will ever know.
Prayers and blessings to all of you and yours. Take care of you!
