Dear All,
It is a warm and lazy sort of day, so I find myself with little to write. Do you also have days when you are low energy . . . when you just want to pick up a good book, grab an iced tea and crawl into your lounge chair on the back deck? Instead, I’m in my church office with my dog, Lucy, asleep next to my desk. I know how much Lucy means to me as a companion, particularly when I am sad or struggling. We channel our emotions to our pets and most often they pick up on it and behave accordingly. Sometimes, not so much – particularly if they are hungry.

I know the challenge and sorrow when we have to ‘put down’ a beloved pet. It is a loss and leaves a void in your heart and life. This past week, I know the Parks Family had to put down their beloved Daisy. And yes, there are prayers for those pets who have died, recognizing their importance in our lives. Here is one I’d like to offer for Daisy:
O Lord our God, we come before You this day in sadness. Daisy, who brought us so much joy in life, has now died. Her happy times in our family’s embrace have come to an end. We miss Daisy already.
Help us, O God, to remember the good times with Daisy. Remind us to rejoice in the happy times she brought to our home. Let us be thankful for the good life we were blessed to give to her.
We are grateful to You, God, for creating Daisy, for entrusting her to our care, and for sustaining her in our love for 15 years. We understand that all that lives must die. We knew that this day would come. And yet, O God, we would have wanted one more day of play, one more evening of love with Daisy.
O God, as we have taken care of Daisy in life, we ask that You watch over her in death. You entrusted Daisy to our care; now, we give her back to You. May Daisy find a happy new home in Your loving embrace. May her memory bless our lives with love and caring forever. Amen.
May you all have a lazy day soon to enjoy life and its blessings. May your pets continue to give you companionship and love as you care for their lives. And may all of you continue to ask God’s prayers for our country, our government and those in need.
Blessings,
Karen+
